Most restaurants in Colombo are incredibly kid friendly, so you don’t need to worry about being frowned upon when you rock up with your kids in tow. If T&T could start a movement (prepare for the rant!!) in Colombo it would be for restaurants to have healthier options on their menus for children; not to mention simply having kids’ menus to start with. As parents, WE DON’T WANT chicken nuggets-and-chips on every menu, and if it is to be on every menu, we want a healthier version, AND the option of some simple vegetables. There is such an opportunity for healthier kids’ menus which can still be appealing to kids and parents alike. The places listed below, despite some predictable options, have tried to cater to children, and are all extremely welcoming and helpful. We feel the momentum is coming and if you fall in love with a place, get in touch.

Well done Monsoon, you have created a great kids’ menu, which parents and kids are going to love. We salute you for your varied menu and inclusion of vegetables in a fun way. We love that your broth is homemade and there is not a chip in sight. T&T’s favourite grown up restaurant just got even better.

Flamingo House has recently launched a new kids’ tapas menu; it’s got all the standard options plus a few thoughtful ones like veggie spring rolls, sandwiches and chicken yakitori skewers. You can get 5 items for Rs. 800 or 10 items for Rs. 1,200. This is a brilliant concept for the kids who are picky so they can have a little bit of everything. Well done Flamingo House for thinking out of the box.

They have seriously delicious pizzas, and an awesome ice cream machine where you can watch the ice cream being made. The staff is attentive and is utterly charming with the children. They’re happy to do half-and-half pizzas, so all taste buds can be accommodated for, without getting 2 pizzas and wasting them.
Opening Hours: 9am -10pm (Open till 6pm on Sundays and Closed on Mondays) | 32, A1 Dickmans Rd, Colombo 05 | 0117 021 205
KIKU is fabulous for children, they are so welcome here; it doesn’t look the most kid-friendly place, but all children we know flock here and say it is their favourite place to eat. Perhaps it is because the food is so delicious, and they will adjust the dishes to kids’ palettes when needed. They also have colouring pencils and paper, and if a group of you with your babies call ahead, they will arrange a space for you so the kids can move around.
Opening Hours: 7am – 11pm | 5 Skelton Rd, Colombo 05 | 0112 559 900
Dolce Italia is a firm favourite; the owners are so welcoming to children, and they do great pizza and pasta. The kids can run around, and they can choose a home baked treat at the end. The food always tastes like home cooking; you know they have not added unnecessary ingredients. They are also very accommodating with food intolerances.

They have every kind of food on offer so even the fussiest of eaters can be satisfied by their buffet. It’s also brilliant as a family outing because everyone can be made happy with the food options available. Your children’s eyes light up when they see the range of puddings and sweets on offer. They often have entertainment for children, and different events so it’s worth following. Kids under 6 eat free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Hyve is a yummy scrummy place to go to for you and the kids. As the name suggests they make desserts, so you and your child can be properly spoiled. They also have a little play area for younger children.
