Here are our favourite picks for filling up your home with essential kitchen appliances and personalizing your home.

1. Clover Concepts Pvt Ltd

106 Jawatta Road, Colombo 5 | Opening Hours: 9am to 6pm (Open till 3pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays) | 0112 505 006
Clover Concepts supplies kitchen equipment to a professional catering standard. You can find a huge amount of useful kitchen items in here, which are tasteful (the appliances, not the food. That depends on your skill). Things like wine coolers, good quality salt and pepper mills, wine glasses, Le Creuset cooking ware and much more can be found here.

2. Titus Stores

98 Main Street, Colombo 11 | Opening Hours: 9.30am – 6.30pm (10am – 4.30pm on Saturday and closed on Sundays) | 071 076 7600
We just love this place; it is an Aladdin’s cave of useful kitchen items, from teddy bear cake moulds, to string hopper makers. There is everything in here, and it is fun to go to and just look around. Their main store is in Pettah, but they have a smaller selection of products at their outlet at Liberty Plaza.

3. Abans

498 Galle Rd, Colombo 3 | Opening Hours: 8.30am- 5.30pm on weekdays(8.30am-1.30pm on saturday) | 0112 112 112
This is a good option for electrical goods; they supply Toshiba, LG, Whirlpool, and other appliance brands, including their own brand. One of their largest showrooms is in Colombo and is adjacent to McDonald’s which has a play area where you can leave the kids. Not the best at customer service though so checking out can take a while.

4. Singer

222 Galle Rd, Colombo 4 | Opening Hours: 9am – 7pm (Open till 3.30pm only on Sundays) | 0112 508 799
Similar to Abans, Singer primarily sells electrical goods ranging from televisions, to rice cookers. They mainly have their own products with a small selection of other international brands, including Tefal. They also do furniture and have a collection, which, once taken out of setting can be well placed in your home. They’ve got several outlets of various sizes, but we recommend the one on Galle Road in Colombo 4.

5. Odel Home

5 Alexandra Place, Colombo 7 | Opening Hours: 10am – 8pm | 0114 625 800
A part of the Odel department store, they’ve got a lovely collection of towels, vases, bed linens, storage boxes as well as a nicely curated range of homeware items. Well worth checking out for making your home a little more stylish. They also have one at the CCC.

6. Paradise Road

213 Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 7 | Opening Hours: 10am – 7pm | 0112 686 043
This shop is definitely one of the standouts in Colombo for its homeware and designs. Their signature black and white designs can often be seen throughout Sri Lanka. It’s a great place to buy your table glasses, cutlery, crockery and china, which are created by small scale Sri Lankan independent craftsmen. They’re always introducing new designs and if you are only visiting here, they will pack up your goodies so they will travel safely with you. If you hunt around the store, you will find lots of treasures.

7. Urban Island

181 Sri Anagarika Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 7 | Opening Hours: 10am – 7pm | 0112 021 377
A contemporary Sri Lankan design store with a range of homeware, we love their designs and creativity. The core ethos of the store is ‘Designed and Made in Sri Lanka,’ and their entire product range is curated with this in mind. They feature gorgeous handwoven baskets in bright colours, rugs at affordable prices, contemporary designed ceramics for the kitchen. You can also grab a great range of teas and spices. It’s a favourite place to go when returning home as it’s fantastic for tasteful gifts.

8. Miniso

Colombo City Centre, 137 Sir James Pieris Mawatha, Colombo 02 | Opening Hours: 10am -10pm | 070 251 4811
What’s not to like about this Japanese store? Yes, it is full of plastic, and things you are buying just because it is so cheap, but there has been nothing like this in Colombo up until now, and it feels so good to spend money on a parasol/ umbrella that looks super chic and is super cheap, or cute electrical goods. And, you won’t mind if they break because they have not broken the bank. They’ve got several outlets, but our favourite is the one at Colombo City Centre.
